Safe buildings are an integral part of maintaining a safe and economically viable community. Our staff is dedicated to providing professional, quality customer service to those whom we serve. The Building Department is responsible for ensuring public safety through the administration and enforcement of The Florida Building Code, Florida Statutes, and Federally mandated construction codes. Our philosophy is based on equal enforcement of building codes, in an atmosphere of cooperation and open communication.

Local Construction Licenses will expire on September 30, 2011. Licenses must be renewed prior to that date to prevent late fees. State Certified Contractors will also need to renew their registration. Renewal notices will have been sent to all active license holders not later than August 19th. If you fail to receive a notice for any reason before August 29th, please do not hesitate to begin your renewal process.

RENEWAL IN PERSON - please remember to bring a current copy of your liability insurance certificate and workers compensation certificate (or state exemption if applicable) listing Okeechobee County Planning and Development as the certificate holder; also bring a current copy of your business tax receipt and proper identification. Sorry; credit and debit cards are not accepted for payment of fees.

RENEWAL BY MAIL/FEDEX/UPS - please submit a current copy of your liability insurance certificate and workers compensation certificate (or state exemption if applicable) listing Okeechobee County Planning and Development as the certificate holder. Include a current copy of your business tax receipt, a copy of your identification, and the applicable fees. Sorry; credit and debit cards are not accepted. Make checks or money orders payable to Okeechobee County Planning and Development.

NOTE: If your address or telephone/FAX numbers have changed be sure to let us know in writing. If you'd like a receipt copy sent return mail, you must include a self addressed return envelope with proper postage.

LICENSEE POCKET CARDS - will be processed within two to three weeks after renewal. You will be notified by staff when they are ready for pickup.
